John T. Gavigan is the Chief Operating Officer at SomaDetect. As the former Executive Director of 43North, the $5 million startup competition in Buffalo, NY, he is deeply committed to building early stage businesses and entrepreneurial ecosystems. John has spoken at conferences across North America on entrepreneurial topics ranging from inclusion, education, the Western New York startup ecosystem, and business development. John is an Amherst, NY native with 25-plus years of business development, marketing, fundraising, and team building experience. He grew up in a family-owned business and has served in various leadership and/or ownership roles at Xerox, Eastern Managed Print Network, and Xerographic Solutions, which he and his partner sold to Xerox in 2011. He co-founded Discover Buffalo Niagara Calendars in 1999, helped launch Eden Interiors design firm in 2002, and co-founded My Digital Office in 2008. He has served on various boards including Buffalo Renaissance Foundation, The Summit Center, Buffalo Museum of Science, and Tifft Nature Preserve. An Allentown resident, John is a Buffalonian through and through and a proud graduate of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute in 1989, Binghamton University School of Management (BS, Accounting) in 1993, and Canisius College (MBA) in 2001. When he’s not supporting the dairy industry or the Buffalo renaissance, you'll find him skiing, preparing for endurance events, or traveling. While professional life means so much to John, his sons Miles and Max take center stage in his life.
